In the sky today, there are four planets in the peace-centered sign of Libra, a planetary energy that at its best is much associated with beauty, grace, refinement, kindly sympathy, and easy-going artistry. Those planets include the Sun, Mercury, Venus, and Saturn. Venus (love and connection) and Saturn (discernment and commitment) are especially at home in this sensitive sign, and these two celestial bodies merged temporarily last week to calm nerves and smooth any ruffled relationships. For the most part, the month of October promises to provide a welcome relief and settling down from the tensions and outright confrontations of the past several months as the powerful giants Uranus and Pluto moved into a brief but highly stressful square-off in preparation for the first exact square of seven more in the next 3-4 years. Many spiritual teachers, like Patricia Cota-Robles, suggest this is a significant phase of evolution to make the care of our own physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual needs a priority—as in greatly slowing down for sufficient moments of quiet stillness and inner reflection. Thus, doing becomes secondary. Being and essence can be primary. Keep in mind that an enormous amount is happening on all levels, both cosmically and individually! As the 10th month (actually considered to be a “one” month—1 + 0), October is an excellent time to center and focus our awareness inward in order to experience additional clarity and heart guidance. October can be a period for optimistic planning and promising future opportunities as this year begins to wind down, giving way to the intense demands of next year for personal and global spiritual growth. So let us breath a little more deeply—and with greater awareness—while we entrust ourselves, in the weeks ahead, to the Ancient Wisdom Teachings of Kittens. Cats (and all animals in fact) are such healing, perfect entities because they are always connected to the realm of Source. White Eagle astrologer, Simon Bentley, has suggested that domestic cats are “the most lunar of animals, as shown by their devotion to places (sometimes more than to people), their nocturnal nature and their psychic abilities. It is said that they are capable of absorbing undesirable energy from their surroundings and transmuting it. In ancient Tibet, cats supposedly guarded temple regalia, as the lamas knew they would register every impression from their surroundings and a sensitive would simply have to ‘read back’ (by looking into their eyes) what they had absorbed in order to know if anything untoward had occurred.”1 Like those keen, lunar instincts of cats, we too can spend some private time warmly curled up—in self-care—within the domain of our cozy home, reflecting soulfully and attuning to the “gut” feelings that are most real for us. The inner world of our psyche can hence open up like an oyster to reveal the pearl sequestered within. This is the jeweled place of true self knowledge. Additional Wisdom regarding Cats I have studied many philosophers and many cats. The wisdom Civilization is defined by the presence of cats. Thou art the Great Cat, the avenger of the Gods, A cat may look at a king. I believe cats to be spirits come to earth.
