A VISUAL CELEBRATION OF SUMMER

Midsummer is also associated with St. John the Baptist,
who is said to have been born six months before Jesus.
In John 3:30, John the Baptist says:
“He [Jesus] must increase, but I must decrease.”
The astronomical symbolism of this is a reference to John
and Jesus’s births – Jesus was born on the winter solstice,
and after him, daylight increases, while John, born at midsummer,
decreases the length of day.
Nina Gryphon, traditional astrologer

Then followed that beautiful season… Summer….

Filled was the air with a dreamy and magical light; and
the landscape
lay as if new created in all
the freshness of childhood.
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Summer afternoon—summer afternoon; to me those have
always been the two most beautiful words
in the English language.
Henry James

How sweet I roamed from field to field, and tasted
all the summer’s pride.
Willam Blake

Love is to the heart what the summer is to the farmer’s year
— it brings to harvest all the loveliest flowers of the soul.
Author Unknown

A life without love is like a year without summer.
Swedish Proverb

I almost wish we were butterflies and liv’d but three summer
days — three such days with you I could fill with more
delight than fifty common years could ever contain.
John Keats

A summer’s sun is worth the having.
French Proverb

How joyous and happy you are when the sun pours forth its light!
Life then takes on a different
complexion. Have you ever
thought that you yourself are
as a sun amongst the people with
whom you mix and that it is within
your power to radiate sunshine
and make happiness? Can we not
each resolve henceforth to be a
sun-worshipper and a sunlight-giver? Do not lose one second,
but use all life for growth.
…We work and serve our fellow men and women, and radiate warmth and light upon this earth plane, so dark without the sun.

White Eagle

There shall be eternal summer in the grateful heart.
Celia Thaxter

When you realize how perfect everything is you will tilt
your head back and laugh at the sky.
Lord Buddha
