Two armies of men
in blue, gray coats in grave fight.
Quietly he came.

Paper, pencil, stamps,
little money of his own.
Listening to men.

Most at fear’s, death’s doors,
writing down their words for home.
Letters of heart sent.

True identity
he witnessed in each soldier,
each Lighted presence.

Whom, then, did he serve?
Emanations of Being.
Companioned with love.

Anything that you can see as true of another,
eventually you will see as the truth of yourself.
You are that other, and that other is you,
for there is only one Self.
Joel S. Goldsmith, Living the Illumined Life
