RESTING MIND

Too much-ness of thought
the Western world applauds.
Busy, busy mind.

Out think the other.
It’s a competitive quest.
No time to ease thought.

Active, whirling mind.
Who can slow the racing stream?
No peaceful tempo.

An inner Spirit
opens in some a new way
to annul the false.

A kind voice is heard
calling one to inward turn
to cleanse, clear the mind.

Anxiety stops.
Concerns for tomorrow cease.
Like a hand holds ours.

In a deeper space
does the Truth originate.
Gifts of grace bestowed.

This refined level
offers real, profound insights.
The old soul has died.

Advances are made
by receptive pioneers
who can rest the mind.

Look only to the eternal Silence,
to spiritual intuition, guidance, and
vision. Let the rest of the world
go by on its headlong, weary course.
Your wings take you to a different,
higher, refined and rarefied atmosphere.

Those who are living the ego-life are fighting or
competing with one another, trying to supersede
or be better than another, richer or more beautiful.…
The ego-man, the man of earth, is always asserting
himself in the world: discussing, arguing, striving,
competing, fighting. The contemplative, the man
of God, may be out in the world doing whatever
his work may be, but mentally and spiritually
he is at home within his own being. The
contemplative does not withdraw from an active
life; in fact, he may become increasingly active.
Joel S. Goldsmith, beloved teacher and illumined mystic
